The Italian Biogas Consortium reports 60 direct biomethane purchase agreements (BPAs) covering 180 million Sm³ a year, nearly half of it for steelmaking.

Meeting in Milan on 17 September, farm producers and industrial users took stock of Biomethane Purchase Agreements, sales contracts between biomethane producers and industrial consumers.

According to CIB, 60 agreements have been signed for 180 million Sm³ a year: steel accounts for 46% (82 million Sm³), ahead of paper (14%), ceramics, cement and bricks, chemicals and food processing.

CIB reports that the environment and energy security minister maintains the goal of exceeding 5.5 billion m³ of biomethane in 2030 and announced a new decree for converting biogas plants; the sector is calling for a stable framework for long-term contracts.
