Spain: AVEBIOM and CAAE team up to certify digestate as an EU fertilising product

Published on databiomass on Source published on Our method

The Spanish bioenergy association and the certification body CAAE have signed an agreement to help biogas producers have their digestate recognised under the EU Fertilising Products Regulation.

Presented at the Renewable Gas Fair in Valladolid, the agreement aims to ease application of Regulation (EU) 2019/1009, which governs the placing on the market of CE-marked fertilising products.

The regulation's component material category CMC 5 covers certain digestates from anaerobic digestion of authorised materials, such as separately collected biowaste.

According to AVEBIOM, CAAE is the only accredited notified body in Spain for assessing these products; the goal is to build digestate valorisation into biogas and biomethane projects from the design stage.
